all for the BLUE & WHITE

(old ADDU grade school wooden building. LOTS of fond memories  here)
jesuit priests and jesuit education have forever been a part of my existence. much to my father's dismay, as early as 5 years old i was already reciting the hail holy queen's and our father's with ease. my father never wanted me to be educated at Ateneo. for the precise reason that i might be persuaded into the Catholic faith. but my mother was firm. Ateneo or nothing at all. God bless my mom.

thanks to my mom again, my brothers and I grew up in a very simple household. washed dishes daily and ironed our own clothes. she rarely accepted "helpers" from my dad's family. she made sure we were unlike all our cousins who grew up surrounded by hired help. i remember we had occasional yayas but they were far and in between.

we did though have our fair share of kaka's (older cousins) who watched over us in school and at home. these kaka's were in fatigue uniforms, who wore glum expressions on their faces and carried 9mm's and M-16 rifles. yes, THAT kind of kuya.

i remember Ali, my designated kuya (??!!) when i was 6 to 10 years old. while all my classmates at Ateneo had cute yaya's in their pink uniforms carrying facetowels and powder puffs at recess time.. i had kaka Ali in his green fatigues and 9mm in his carefully safetied holster. don't get me wrong, my mom made sure Ali was equipped with the pre-requisite Sanrio pink bag with all my neccesities. powder, cologne, tissue paper for those sticky situations and of course.. reserve magazines of reloaded armalite bullets. cute huh.

i never questioned why i didn't have a proper girl yaya. i liked my Ali. he had talents no one else had. no one bullied me nor teased me in my pigtails. no one even laughed or snickered when i peed in my pants in 1st grade. they just watched in awe while Ali mopped all my pee off the floor while maneuvering me in my wet undies. not one classmate laughed. that was different, i thought. all other classmates would jump at the chance to laugh at anyone who peed, farted, cried and whatever else first graders do :)

Anyway,,, let’s go back to my blue and white education. I stayed at the Ateneo for 16 whole years. From Montessori to 5 years overstaying in college. I loved playing volleyball varsity so much i took an extra year just because. Just because..

I loved being “a man for others.” This blue knight mantra I take to heart as to this day.

….. and let’s go to the REAL reason for this entry…

did you guys watch the Ateneo-La Salle 1st game yesterday?! Was it awesome or WHAT!
